Seville is our favourite city in the world, so if you're currently trying to decide whether or not to visit, we'd say it's an absolute must. When you visit Seville, you really need to make the most of this stunning city, so we'd recommend sitting down and doing your research ahead of time, so as not to waste a single second of your time in the sun. Therefore, we've put together this list of things to research before visiting Seville for the first time. However, if you want to skip the hours of research, and hand it over to an expert, we have good news! We've put together a full, downloadable Seville Travel Toolkit with everything you need to know about Seville, all in one easy to navigate document which you can keep saved to your phone.

The first thing you need to research is when to visit Seville:

One thing to consider when deciding when to visit Seville is peak and off-peak tourism season. To guarantee all attractions, bars and restaurants will be open, visit in the peak season, which is from March to May and September to November.

To avoid crowds, visit during the off-peak season which is from June-August, and January. Or, do as we always aim to do, and find the best of both worlds by visiting in the shoulder season, just transitioning between off-peak and peak, which is generally the months of December, February, and late May-early June in Seville.

You also have to consider the weather when planning when to visit Seville. With roughly 300 days of sunshine each year, Seville is one of the brightest cities in Europe, but the sunshine comes with serious heat. Much of the city’s reputation comes from its scorching summers, which have earned the wider region of central Andalusia the nickname “The Frying Pan of Spain.”

If you prefer mild weather for sightseeing, the cooler winter months are usually the most comfortable time to visit, as summer temperatures regularly climb above 40°C from May through to September. In June 2025 the city saw highs of 46°C, making it one of the hottest periods on record.

To help you decide when to visit Seville, here are Seville’s average monthly high and low temperatures:

January: 16° / 6°

February: 18° / 8°

March: 21° / 9°

April: 22° / 11°

May: 26° / 13°

June: 32° / 17°

July: 36° / 19°

August: 35° / 19°

September: 33° / 18°

October: 26° / 14°

November: 20° / 10°

December: 17° / 8°

You also might want to research events that would make a difference to your trip to Seville, such as local festivals or markets, as well as national events. You can find that information on the official Visita Sevilla website. Always consider national Spanish celebrations that may make your trip to Seville busier and more expensive, such as Semana Santa (the holy week, around Easter time) or Dia de los Reyes (day of the kings, a Spanish festive celebration in early January).

We know this is a lot to research already (and we’ve only just started), so we’ve created a digital guide that covers everything from planning your trip, to things you want to see, do, and know before you visit Spain in our full, downloadable Seville Travel Toolkit. Don’t visit without taking a look below:

The next thing you need to research before visiting Seville for the first time is how you're going to get to to the city:

Of course, you need to know how to get to Seville. Whether you’re flying, coming by train, bus, or even taxi, you need a plan before you visit, including how you’ll get from wherever you’re dropped off, to the city centre or your accommodation.

If you’re flying, book the flights before anything else. Why? Flights set your travel dates and tend to go up in price over time. Use comparison tools to find the best deals and once booked, you can start planning the rest around your confirmed itinerary. We recommend booking flights directly through the airline or secure websites such as trip.com.

Once your flights are confirmed, secure a place to stay. Use reliable platforms, we recommend Booking.com or AirBnb. Booking through official platforms gives you support in case of issues abroad. Also, sites like Booking.com offer loyalty discounts (e.g.,"Genius" members).

You also need to consider airport parking, transfers and taxis. We always use HolidayExtras for this, as they’re reputable, reliable, and we get a 25% discount (you can get it too, just use our personalised link).

There is a full guide to booking and planning your trip, as well as a pre-trip checklist with all the things you need to consider, included in our Seville Travel Toolkit. Download it here!

When visiting Seville for the first time, one of the most important things to research is which neighbourhood to stay in:

Before your trip to Seville, it’s a good idea to research what attractions and restaurants are in which neighbourhood, and therefore where it would be best for you to stay.

For example, if you want a more authentically Spanish, affordable area, a little further away from the centre, it would be great to stay in Triana. But if you want to be right in the centre of it all, stay in Santa Cruz, the main tourist hotspot with the Cathedral and the Royal Alcazar.

We’ve thought about this too in our Seville Travel Toolkit. It actually comes with an interactive digital map included, so you can see exactly where all of our recommended spots (from must-sees, to hidden gems, to cafes and bars) are in relation to each other, and the different neighbourhoods they sit in.

This will not only help you out on the go in Seville city centre, as you can see which recommendation is closest to you and plan a logical route, but it will also help you decide which neighbourhood you want to stay in that aligns the most with the things you want to do and see on your trip. You can get access to our interactive digital map here!

Make sure to look into the culture and language in Seville:

There are a few things that you should research before any trip, and one of them is definitely culture!

Look into key things to know such as:

  • Cultural norms

  • Key Spanish phrases

  • Food and drinks to try

  • Typical meal times

  • The general way of life in the city

  • How to have authentic experiences in the city without getting scammed or getting stuck in a tourist trap!!

And if that all sounds like far too much to be googling, making notes on (and probably losing later), don’t worry, it’s all covered in our Seville Travel Toolkit.

Research the best things to do and places to eat in Seville before your trip:

We said earlier that Seville is our favourite city in the world, and we meant it. We truly believe that if you wanted to just turn up, wander around, and stumble into any bar or restaurant that you think looks good whilst seeing the sights, you'd still have fun, and we wouldn’t blame you at all.

However, it’s a good idea to go into any trip with a few non-negotiables: things you absolutely want to see, visit or do on your trip. It just helps to provide you with a bit of a structure to each day, and makes sure you don’t get home and realise you missed one of the top sights in the city.

Here’s a few must-sees we think you need to include on your non-negotiables list:

  • Cathedral of Seville

  • Royal Alcazar

  • Seville bullring

  • Setas de Sevilla

  • Plaza de España

You don’t have to make this list yourself - either you can download our Seville Travel Toolkit for a list of all of our must-sees, hidden gems, and restaurant and bar recommendations. Alternatively, reach out to us about our personalised travel planning service, where we create an itinerary for you based on your travel dates and preferences.

So, that completes our full list of things you need to research before visiting Seville for the first time. We really hope it’s helped you prepare for your trip and start to get excited about visiting this beautiful city.
